Does a cake with raspberry filling need to be refrigerated?

Yes, you should definitely refrigerate raspberry dump cake leftovers after making/serving them.  The reason why is, the cake will be able to maintain its flavor for longer.  Just beware, you shouldn’t refrigerate it longer than 3-5 days, or else it’ll go bad.

Why are they called dump cakes?

Dump cakes got their name after being invented by Duncan Hines in 1980.  If you’ve ever made a dump cake before, you’ll know exactly why that is!  If you don’t know, the reason is that you simply ‘dump’ the ingredients in the crockpot and bake.

How does a dump cake work?

Dump cakes are undeniably one of, if not the simplest desserts you can make!  How they work is you make a lower layer of fruit filling, topped with a crumbly, buttery warm layer.  The combination of these two layers then creates an irresistible raspberry dump cake recipe that’s a hit at parties, weekend get-togethers, busy weeknights, and more!

Raspberry Cream Cheese Dump Cake

Ingredients

  • 15.25 oz Betty Crocker French Vanilla Cake Mix  1 box
  • 42 oz Raspberry Pie Filling 2 21-oz Cans
  • 8 tbsp Butter
  • 8 oz Whipped Cream Cheese

Instructions

  • Spray inside of crockpot with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Empty cans of Raspberry Pie Filling into crockpot, and spread out evenly.
  • Scoop dollops of Cream Cheese and place on top of Raspberry Pie Filling.
  • In medium mixing bowl, combine dry Cake Mix and melted Butter, and stir until crumbly. (Break up any large chunks with your spoon)
  • Pour Cake Mix/Butter Crumble over Raspberry/Cream Cheese layer in crockpot, and spread out evenly.
  • Cook on HIGH for 2 hours, or LOW for 4 hours, or until sides are hot and bubbly.
  • Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Enjoy!

        No canned raspberry! Berry season is over. Still will try to find Raspberries and add 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup water to make another corn starch slurry and simple syrup and boil until all the sugar dissolved!
