Wonder if it would be yummy to add a little carmel topping to this recipe like you added to your crock pot recipe?
Never Ending Journeys says
Hi Sherry, you can definitely add caramel topping to this recipe! You could heat some up in a dish in the microwave, and drizzle it on the cake once the cake is done. Hope you enjoy!

Megan says
Making this now for my grandpa who is 87 and lives alone. I’m going to use fresh apples since it’s fall and it seems like a sin not to so I’m not sure how many to use but i picked 12 from my tree so I’m hoping to get 2 cakes out of it. I will let you know how it goes!
Never Ending Journeys says
Hi Megan – Yes… this recipe works great with a homemade apple pie filling, too! When making my homemade filling, I like to use 1 cup water, 1 cup white sugar, and 3 tbsp corn starch, cooked in a sauce pan over medium high heat until thick and bubbly, stirring constantly. Then you’ll remove mixture from the heat, let it cool for 3 minutes while continuing to stir. Then, add in your peeled and sliced apples, and stir until well combined. That will be your homemade pie filling mixture that you’ll spread on the bottom of your dish. I’d suggest using 4 large apples or 6 medium apples for 1 dump cake. Let me know how it goes… I hope grandpa loves it! 🙂
Amber says

When u say dry cake mix do i bake cake first from box directions then crumble dry cake mix
Never Ending Journeys says
Hi Kristal, no… you won’t bake the cake mix, just use the dry powder mix straight from the box and mix with the butter to create the crumble.
Mary says
Hi! Can’t wait to try it. 2 questions. What size stick of butter and I wonder if you could use a yellow cake mix????
Never Ending Journeys says
Hi, Mary, the stick of butter is equivalent to 8 tablespoons, or 1/2 cup of butter. And yellow cake mix works well with this recipe, too!
