With just 4 simple ingredients, you’ve got yourself another Easy Instant Pot Recipe!  Serve it shredded on a bun for sandwiches, on sweet Hawaiian rolls for sliders, or as a tasty entree with a side of potato salad or mac and cheese!

Can you put raw chicken in an Instant Pot?

Yes, you absolutely can.  Just follow the instructions for this recipe to fully cook the chicken through.  After all, you don’t want raw Dr Pepper chicken breasts as the end result of your meal!

How long does it take to cook chicken in an Instant Pot?

For this recipe, you’ll only need a fast 15 minutes to cook chicken in your pressure cooker.  When you’re having a busy weeknight and need a dinner in a cinch, this is the way to go!  Whether you’re making Dr Pepper chicken thighs, or breasts like in this recipe, be sure to never leave the chicken undercooked.

What to add to chicken to make it tasty?

For this recipe, the Dr Pepper chicken marinade combination of bbq sauce and root beer is what sends the flavor over the top!  Just imagine a savory sauce, perhaps something familiar yet new.  Overall, there’s nothing that really compares – you’ll just have to give it a try and see! 😉

Instant Pot Dr Pepper Chicken Recipe (BBQ)

With just 4 simple ingredients, this easy Instant Pot Dr Pepper Chicken Recipe is the ultimate addition to your weeknight menu!

Ingredients

  • 3 pounds Boneless Skinless Chicken Thighs fresh or thawed
  • 18 ounces Sweet Baby Ray’s Barbecue Sauce {1 bottle}
  • 1 cup Dr Pepper {8 ounces} divided into 3/4 cup and 1/4 cup portions.
  • Optional: Cooked Bacon Slices

Instructions

  • Add 1/4 cup Dr. Pepper to bottom of Instant Pot, then place Chicken Thighs in the Instant Pot.
  • In medium mixing bowl, combine 3/4 cup Dr. Pepper with 18 ounces of Barbecue Sauce, then set 3/4 cup of this sauce mixture aside to drizzle on your cooked chicken once it’s done.
  • Pour remaining sauce mixture from bowl over Chicken Thighs and secure lid on Instant Pot.
  • Select “Meat/Stew” setting, select “High Pressure,” and change cooking time to 15 minutes.
  • Preheat will start 10 seconds after settings are selected.
  • Once Chicken is done, Quick Release pressure before removing lid.
  • Serve as whole thighs, or shred with 2 forks and serve on a bun as a sandwich or sliders.
  • Optional: Top with cooked bacon slices to send the flavor over the top!
  • Drizzle the 3/4 cup of sauce you had set aside over chicken on your plate or bun, and ENJOY!

Notes

In addition to cook time, it will take approx. 15 minutes to initially reach pressure before cook time begins.
If using a Crock Pot Pressure Cooker, select the “Beans/Chili” setting to manually override cook time and pressure settings.
