How to Regrow Celery at Home
What You’ll Need to Grow Celery From Cutting:
- 1 bunch of Celery stalks
- Clean, sharp knife
- Small Jar or shallow bowl
- Outdoor Garden for Planting
How to Regrow Celery From Stalk:
#1: Cut the Celery Stems
So, the first step is to chop off the celery stalks, so you’re just left with the celery stem bunch. Just be sure to keep the stems about 2-3 inches tall.
#2: Place in Jar With Water
Then, place the celery stem bunch in a small jar with water. Be sure to replace the water ever day with fresh new water.
#3: Watch it Grow
Now comes the waiting. Give the celery 4-5 weeks to grow, and cut off any flaking, decaying outer layers with scissors. Doing that will help keep the plant healthy, and make sure its energy is going towards producing new stalks and roots. Just be sure you don’t cut off any of the growing roots!
Now, before you plant it outside, you’ll want several roots growing. As you can see in the photo below, these are first two roots growing on my celery plant, so I’ll put it back in the water until I’ve got LOTS of strong roots.
#4: Plant Your Celery Outside
And finally, once your celery is healthy and has many strong roots, it’s time to move it outside! Plant on a cloudy day, or in the evening with no direct sunlight when transplanting. Then water it well right after transplanting. Keep watering it every day, and watch it grow! Celery typically does well with full sun, organic soil, and PLENTY of water. It thrives with moisture.
So there you have it! Regrowing celery is so fun… give it a try!
