Opt for things like polyester shirts or shorts when it makes sense, or cotton/polyester blends. Your be less wrinkly right out of the suitcase, and will dry faster after washing!

Also, a handy thing to have is Tide Instant Stain Remover. It’s small enough to take anywhere you go. Don’t let a day be ruined by a silly stain, just remove it on the spot! I took this to Rome with me, and it was a lifesaver! We spent a LOT of time eating at the Best Places to Eat in Rome. After we had some pasta sauce spills and gelato drips, the Tide Pen helped take the stains right out!

Bring Laundry Bags

Don’t forget the laundry bags! They can be used to separate clothes into different batches for washing. Having about two or three lightweight reusable bags would be preferable.

Now let’s get to washing! Why overpay for some expensive hotel washing machine or risk losing your clothes at a laundromat? Going back and washing clothes the good ol’ fashioned way saves time, money, and hassle – 3 things you really don’t want to worry about when you’re traveling and having a good time!

Here is the best method to wash clothes in a hotel room:

Plug the sink drain using a Universal Drain Stopper. {some hotels have the drain stopper removed, so be sure to take one along just in case}
Fill the sink up nearly all the way, leaving the water just 1 – 2 inches from the top.
Then, simply wash your clothing garments with a Zote Pink Soap Bar until the soap eventually dissolves. (you can easily wash clothes with any other biodegradable soap bars as well) If your garment is extra soiled or stinky, you can let it soak for about 10 – 15 minutes in the sink’s soapy water as well. Plus, the nice thing about soap bars are they don’t count as liquids when going through airport security!

Wash Small Loads

You may not need to wash a large load, so washing small loads of clothes in your room’s sink or tub can be a lifesaver! Doing smaller batches helps ensure that all your clothes get the cleansing they need, while also avoiding the busy (and pricey) coin laundry machines.

Now once your clothes are clean, here is how to dry clothes while traveling:

After wringing out water from your clothes, lay out a dry towel flat on the bed. Place the wet clothing on the towel, and roll it up tight, removing yet even more water from your clothes.

Then, when you finally hang your clothes, the drying process will be so much faster with so much excess water removed!

Don’t Forget to Pack Thin Hangers + a Travel Clothesline!

Now that your clothes are clean and you’ve gotten most of the moisture out of them, it’s time to hang dry them!

I like to hang dry my clothes on thin hangers I’ve packed in my suitcase. They can hang nicely along the shower rod in the bathroom.

I also love taking along a travel clothesline with clothespins to hang additional garments like socks, undies, beach towels, etc.

If You Don’t Have Time, Don’t Wash It

Also, when it comes to washing… if you don’t have enough time, just don’t wash it. You definitely don’t want to repack clothing in your suitcase until it’s completely dry. You really don’t want those musty smells entering your suitcase or backpack, so wait until your clothes are fully dry before packing them. So if you’re out of time… just pack up your dirty clothes and wash them when you get home, or at the next destination on your itinerary.
