Barb says
My cookies turned out very thin. Not thick. Why?
Never Ending Journeys says
Hi Barb! The answer could be the size of the dough balls – the larger the balls are, the thicker the cookies become. I’ve had this same issue with cake mix cookies in the past, and making slightly larger dough balls fixed it. I hope this helps! 🙂
JAH says
Do you use granulated sugar or powdered sugar?
Never Ending Journeys says
Hello! This recipe uses granulated sugar.

Could butter be substituted instead of oil? If so, do you know the amount?
Never Ending Journeys says
Hi Nancy, I haven’t made cake mix cookies with butter before. If you try it, please let me know how it goes!
Loni says
This is an EXCELLENT recipe! My dad is a sugar cookie connoisseur, and he loves these! I have actually tried many flavors of the “Moist” boxed cakes, and they all turn out great except the chocolate is a bit drier. I have also used other brands with great results—just make sure that it is a box mix of the same number of ounces as the original recipe.
Never Ending Journeys says
Hi Loni, I’m happy your dad likes these cookies!
Marcia Thompson says
It would be more helpful if the recipe included the size of the rolled dough. It’s a guess from the instructions above.
Paula J. Wallis says
I made Iced Coconut Sugar Cookies using Duncan Hines Coconut Supreme Cake Mix. I put a thin layer of icing on the cookies & added holiday colored sprinkles to give ordinary round cookies a festive appearance. I prefer crispy cookies over soft so I increased the baking time. I also adjusted the oil to a 1/4 cup instead of 1/2 cup. This recipe yielded 38 cookies. WARNING: If you are looking for a “sweet” fix…you’ll stop at having just one! (I did.)
Tera says
Do you think you can use this recipe for cut out sugar cookies?
Ann says
I did not see a reply for cut out cookies with this recipe
Elisha says
Do you think you could you any white cake mix or does it need to be the “extra moist” recipe
Never Ending Journeys says
Hi Elisha, using the Super Moist Cake Mix makes the cookies much softer. But if you try another cake mix, let me know how it goes!
Kim says
Do you think if they aren’t rolled in sugar they would turn out good still? I was thinking of adding chocolate chips to the cake mix instead of sugar.
