So, are you ready for some tried and true sleeping tips? Here’s everything you need to know about naturally getting a good night sleep, and what has worked the best for me…
How to Get a Good Night’s Sleep Naturally
#1: Set a Sleep Schedule
The first step to getting a good night’s sleep is setting a sleep schedule: like waking up at the same time, and going to bed at the same time.
A sleep schedule is so important, because after several days, your body gradually and naturally goes into a fall-asleep, wake up pattern. I’ve been doing this more or less for a couple of months now, and it works surprisingly well!
#2: Avoid Caffeine and Meals Before Bed
Another trick for getting better sleep naturally is actually avoiding late night meals and caffeinated drinks like coffee! Try to avoid eating big meals at least 2-3 hours before bed, and coffee for a minimum of 5-6 hours before bed. It takes caffeine a while to clear out of your system, so just keep that in mind when you’re reaching for the coffee pot.
#3: Avoid Naps
If you have trouble sleeping at night, then consider avoiding those afternoon cat naps. They could actually be breaking up your sleep schedule, and holding you back from a good night’s sleep.
#4: Reduce Blue Light Exposure in the Evening!
Multiple studies have shown how the blue light that comes from phone, tablet, and laptop screens actually prevents people from getting good sleep.
On iPhones. there is an easy fix. You can turn Nighttime mode on, which reduces blue light and puts less strain on your eyes during the evening hours. This little trick just might help you fall asleep faster tonight!
#5: Wind Down at Night
Winding down at night is another great way to get better sleep. For the 30-60 minutes or so before you go to bed, instead of watching TV, consider reading a book, taking a leisurely bath, or planning your next day for example.
#6: Work Out + Keep Moving All Day Long!
Did you know that staying stationary all day can actually make falling asleep harder? Instead, try incorporating even a light workout into your schedule, an evening walk, and some stretches before bed. These things will keep your body moving, and should make it easier to fall asleep, too!
#7: Use a Silk Sleeping Mask
Sleep masks are so helpful in getting a peaceful night’s sleep. By blocking out the light, it’s so much easier to get a solid night’s sleep!
#8: Use Blackout Curtains to Keep Your Room Dark
Another simple trick is to use black-out curtains over your window or blinds. Darkening curtains are a great way to block out the bright moon during the night or that early morning sunlight.
#9: Keep Your Room Quiet with Earplugs
Another key to great sleep is minimizing the noise in your bedroom. Make sure your electronics are all on vibrate, or better yet… leave them out in the kitchen or other part of your house to charge while you sleep.
Earplugs are another great tool to help you get better sleep. Whether it’s snoring, noisy neighbors, barking dogs that are keeping you awake, blocking out the noise with earplugs can really do wonders!
#10: Keep Your Thermostat Set to Cool and Comfortable
Don’t forget to keep your room nice and comfortably cool, too. You might find yourself tossing and turning if the thermostat is set too high in the Summer or too low in the Winter.
After You Wake Up…
Now that you know how to get a good night’s sleep naturally, here’s a simple tip for the mornings. Try exposing yourself to natural sunlight in the morning after you wake up. Open up all of the blinds, and even head outside (if you can) for a jog or quick walk around the neighborhood. This simple habit is a great way to help you wake up and kick start your day with a little boost of energy!
Now if you still have questions about falling asleep and getting the rest your body needs, it’s always a great idea to give your physician or health care provider a call.

These are great ideas and tips for a better sleep routine! I always struggle on a Sunday night, because I am out of that routine on a Friday and Saturday. I love using lavender and read a good book to help drift off.
